In 2018, StratAdvisor first partnered with technology due diligence experts, HorizonX, enlisting its help to advise a respected private equity client on the purchase of an emerging an Australasian communications service and infrastructure provider, specialising in the design and deployment of bespoke WAN solutions including Internet, VoIP, Security and Colocation delivered on their carrier grade core voice and data networks.

With tight deadlines and significant risks in this unknown but exciting technology, HorizonX worked closely with the target’s executive team to gain a full picture of the gaps, risks, and recommendations for the target Tech Stack, helping it to reach its full potential.

In just a week, HorizonX provided StratAdvisor and its client with a comprehensive report, covering everything they needed to know to make the right investment decision, including:

  • Core Architecture Risks and Recommendations

  • Software Delivery Process & Code Quality

  • Integrity & Security of Code and Infrastructure

  • Cost estimates:

    • Once off CAPEX (incremental to any current forecast) to implement the recommendations and migrate to cloud A$450K

    • Total ongoing OPEX (incremental to any current forecast) is anticipated to be approximately $200K per annum, this included adding one permanent headcount.

  • Suggestions on staff resourcing to speed up cloud migration.

Not long after completing the first successful technology due diligence, StratAdvisor partnered again with HorizonX, enlisting its help to advise a respected private equity client on the purchase of an emerging point of sale (POS) system.

In just 2.5 weeks, HorizonX provided StratAdvisor and its client with a comprehensive report, covering everything they needed to know to make the right investment decision, including:

  • Specific hygiene security risks to be addressed immediately

  • The exact cost (up to AUD$6.5million) and timeline (24 months) for moving to the cloud

  • Suggestions on staff resourcing to speed up cloud migration  

  • Five core capabilities to prioritise – including software delivery and user experience design.
